A genuinely unusual frog, entirely lacking an external eardrum and middle ear cavity — an adaptation linked to research showing this species can produce and detect ultrasonic calls, likely an adaptation to communicate over the loud background noise of fast, rocky streams.

Found on rocks beside fast-flowing hill streams, and considered one of Borneo's more scientifically noteworthy amphibians because of this unusual hearing and calling biology.
