A Sundaic hawk cuckoo, sparrowhawk-like in shape with barred underparts and a distinctive dark moustachial stripe, classified as Near-threatened due to ongoing lowland forest loss.
A brood parasite of forest babblers, it is more often heard than seen, its loud repeated call carrying through the canopy of the lowland and hill forest it depends on.
