Whitehead's Trogon

A striking Bornean-endemic trogon named after the naturalist John Whitehead, with males showing a deep crimson body, black head and bright orange facial skin, restricted to montane forest on Kinabalu and other high mountains.

Perches quietly and motionless in the mid-storey, sallying out to catch large insects before returning to the same perch — a highly sought-after target for birders visiting Kinabalu Park.
