Ranee Mouse (sp.)

A placeholder entry for a photographed animal identified as one of Borneo's ranee mice (genus Haeromys) but not confidently identifiable to species from the photo alone. The genus contains a handful of very small, superficially similar arboreal mice — including the Margaretta's and lesser ranee mice covered elsewhere on this site — that are difficult to separate without a close, in-hand look at dental and cranial features.

In general, Haeromys are tiny, nocturnal, arboreal mice of lowland Bornean forest, presumed to feed mainly on fruit, seeds and insects on fine branches; almost nothing has been published on the ecology of any species in the genus. If you can help pin down the species from the photo, or have additional images of the same individual, a species-level identification would be very welcome.
