The wild ancestor of the domestic chicken, with males showing the same red comb and wattles, golden neck hackles and long arching tail feathers familiar from farmyard roosters, but leaner and warier.
Found in forest edge, secondary growth and scrub, foraging on the ground for seeds and invertebrates in small groups, with males giving the classic crowing call at dawn.
