A boldly barred rail with a chestnut breast band and grey face, generally found in dense wetland and paddy vegetation where it walks with a jerky, deliberate gait.
Classed as a rare/accidental occurrence in Borneo, it lies at the edge of its normal range here and is only occasionally recorded in suitable marshy habitat.
