An all-black waterbird with a white bill and frontal shield, easily recognised swimming on open water with a distinctive bobbing head motion.
Diving frequently to reach submerged vegetation, it is a scarce visitor to Borneo, generally on larger open lakes and reservoirs rather than dense marshland.
