A large, robust frog notable for tolerating brackish and even saline water — one of very few frogs able to survive in mangroves and coastal wetlands, using physiological adaptations to cope with salt exposure.
Feeds on invertebrates and, opportunistically, crabs (the species name 'cancrivora' means crab-eating), found in coastal swamps, mangroves and adjacent rice paddies as much as freshwater habitat.
