A powerful, broad-shouldered falcon with a dark hood, pale barred underparts and famous for the fastest diving stoop of any bird, reaching enormous speeds when attacking prey in flight.
Occurs in Borneo mainly along coasts and in open country as a scarce passage migrant or winter visitor, preying on shorebirds, pigeons and other birds caught mid-air.
