A small, richly rufous falcon heavily spotted with black, resident mainly on Java and the Lesser Sundas but recorded occasionally at the edges of its range further afield.
Hunts large insects, lizards and small mammals from perches or short hovering flights over open grassland and scrub, and any Bornean occurrence is considered noteworthy.
