Least Pygmy Squirrel

One of the smallest squirrels in the world, barely larger than a large mouse, with a plain brownish coat and a habit of moving in short, quick bursts up tree trunks rather than long canopy leaps.

Diurnal, feeding largely on bark, lichen and small amounts of fruit — its tiny size lets it exploit thin branches and trunk surfaces other squirrels cannot use. Easily mistaken for a large insect or simply overlooked given its size.
