Malaysian Rail-babbler

A strange, secretive, long-necked bird that walks rather than hops across the forest floor, boldly patterned in chestnut, black and blue with a long black stripe through the eye, placed in its own distinct family.

Feeds on insects and invertebrates picked from leaf litter, is extremely difficult to observe despite a loud, far-carrying call, and is classed as Near-threatened due to loss of the lowland forest it requires.
