A large, thick-set wader with a heavy black-tipped bill, staring yellow eyes and grey-brown plumage suited to camouflage on open beaches.
Forages mainly at dusk and night for crabs and other invertebrates along undisturbed shorelines, and is considered near-threatened due to disturbance and habitat loss on Borneo's beaches.
