A rare and accidental vagrant far outside its normal breeding range in southeast Europe and central Asia, breeding males showing a black hood, chestnut back and bright yellow underparts.
Normally a long-distance migrant wintering in South Asia, any occurrence in Borneo represents a considerable overshoot, typically found foraging in open farmland or scrub with other buntings.
