A slender white egret with a distinctive shaggy nuchal crest and, in breeding plumage, a bluish bill and lores, actively running through shallows to flush small fish.
Listed as Vulnerable due to its small breeding population on isolated East Asian islands, it passes through and winters on Borneo's coastal mudflats in small numbers.
