A large, distinctive relative of hedgehogs (though spineless), with coarse white-to-grey fur, a long pink snout and a strong musky odour used for defence — reportedly detectable from some distance in the forest at night.
Nocturnal and largely terrestrial, foraging in leaf litter and near water for invertebrates, small vertebrates and carrion. Its pale colour and slow, shuffling gait make it a distinctive night-drive sighting when encountered.
