Short-nosed Fruit Bat (sp.)

A placeholder entry for a photographed bat identified as one of Borneo's short-nosed fruit bats (genus Cynopterus) but not confidently identifiable to species from the photo alone. Several Cynopterus species overlap in size and colouring across Sabah, and are reliably separated only through close in-hand examination of dental and skull features rather than by eye.

In general, Cynopterus fruit bats are small, common and adaptable, often roosting in leaf tents or building eaves and feeding on fruit, nectar and pollen even in gardens and disturbed habitat. If you can help pin down the species from the photo, or have additional images of the same individual, a species-level identification would be very welcome.
