Very similar to the Blue-and-white Flycatcher but males show a paler, more turquoise-blue upperside and less black on the face, once treated as the same species.
Classed as Near-threatened due to its small breeding range in eastern China, wintering in small numbers through Southeast Asia including Borneo's forests.
