A stout, grey cuckooshrike of montane forest, males showing a black face mask and finely barred underparts, typically seen singly or in pairs moving quietly through the mid-storey and canopy.
Feeds on insects and some fruit, gleaning prey from foliage and branches, and is one of the characteristic birds of Borneo's highland forests such as Kinabalu and Crocker Range.
