A small, brilliantly iridescent cuckoo, males showing glossy violet-purple plumage that flashes in sunlight, females duller and barred.
A brood parasite, laying eggs in the nests of small passerines such as sunbirds and flowerpeckers. Feeds on caterpillars and other insects, usually seen singly high in the canopy.
