A dark-bodied marsh tern that in breeding plumage shows a striking black cap and dark grey underparts, a regular non-breeding visitor to Bornean wetlands, paddies and river systems.
Feeds low over water by dipping to the surface for insects and small aquatic prey rather than plunge-diving, often hawking insects over flooded fields in loose flocks.
