One of the most unusual bats in the world, almost entirely hairless, with loose folds of skin and large pouches on the sides of the body used to fold the wings away while roosting or crawling. A powerful flier despite its odd appearance.
Roosts communally in caves, sometimes in large colonies, and emerges to hunt flying insects at considerable speed and altitude. Its bare, wrinkled skin makes it one of the more memorable bats to see up close, if a roost is visited.
