A common estuarine and mangrove snake with eyes and nostrils set high on the head — an adaptation for lying almost fully submerged while ambushing fish at the surface, exposing only the top of the head.
Nocturnal, feeding on fish, and tolerant of a wide salinity range from freshwater to fully brackish mangrove creeks. Mildly rear-fanged venomous but not considered dangerous to humans.
