A secretive, ground-dwelling coucal of lowland and swamp forest, glossy black overall with chestnut wings, now considered Vulnerable due to loss of its lowland forest habitat.
More often heard than seen, giving a deep, resonant booming call from dense undergrowth, and its declining status makes it a conservation priority species for Borneo's remaining lowland forests.
