A Bornean-endemic broadbill named after the naturalist Charles Hose, with males a striking deep turquoise-blue and females a duller green — an unusually pronounced difference between the sexes for the family.
Feeds mainly on fruit, particularly figs, in the mid-to-upper canopy of hill and montane forest, and like its close relative Whitehead's broadbill, is a prized sighting for visiting birders.
