A widespread, adaptable agamid capable of changing colour, males developing a bright red-orange head and throat during breeding displays and territorial disputes (giving rise to the alternative common name 'bloodsucker', despite having nothing to do with blood).
Diurnal and highly tolerant of disturbed and human-modified habitat, found in gardens, forest edge and open country, feeding on insects and occasionally small vertebrates.
