Bornean Black-banded Squirrel

A Bornean-endemic tree squirrel closely resembling the widespread black-banded squirrel of the lowlands, but restricted to higher-elevation forest in the island's northern mountains — some authorities still treat it as a subspecies rather than a full species.

Diurnal and arboreal, with the typical Callosciurus diet of fruit, seeds and bark. Best looked for in hill and lower-montane forest around Kinabalu and other northern Bornean highlands, where it replaces its lowland relative.
