Plantain Squirrel

A common, adaptable squirrel with an olive-brown back, pale underside, and a dark stripe running along each side. Found in forest, forest edge, gardens and plantations alike, and one of the most frequently seen mammals in Sabah generally.

Diurnal and opportunistic, feeding on fruit, seeds, flowers and occasionally insects. Its tolerance of disturbed habitat makes it a near-guaranteed sighting even outside protected forest.
