A Bornean-endemic reed snake named after the herpetologist Karl Patterson Schmidt, one of Borneo's many small, smooth-scaled Calamaria species that despite the common name are true colubrid snakes rather than blind snakes.
Harmless and burrowing, spending most of its time under leaf litter and loose soil, generally distinguishable from close relatives only by careful scale and colour-pattern examination.
