A highly venomous elapid with bold black-and-yellow banding, generally docile and slow-moving by day but active and much more dangerous at night, when most bites occur.
Feeds mainly on other snakes, including venomous species. Its neurotoxic venom is potent, though bites to humans are uncommon given the species' generally retiring nature — never handle or closely approach a banded krait.
