Rhinoceros Hornbill

Sabah's state bird and one of the most recognisable birds in Borneo, with a huge, upcurved orange-and-red casque above the bill, and a heavy, whooshing wingbeat audible well before the bird is seen.

Feeds mainly on fruit, especially figs, supplemented with small animals, typically in pairs or small family groups. Nests in a tree cavity that the female seals herself into with mud and droppings, leaving only a narrow slit through which the male passes food during incubation.
