A tall, pale grey heron with a black stripe over the eye and a dagger-like yellow bill, standing statue-still at the water's edge before striking at passing fish.
Widespread across Eurasia and Africa, it reaches Borneo mainly as a non-breeding visitor, favouring rivers, estuaries and open coastal wetlands.
