The largest of the white egrets recorded in Borneo, with all-white plumage, a long yellow bill (blackening in breeding condition) and a notably long, slender neck often held in a graceful S-curve.
Hunts fish, frogs and aquatic invertebrates by wading slowly or standing motionless in open wetlands, ricefields and along river margins — one of the more familiar large waterbirds around Kinabatangan's oxbow lakes.
