A common, adaptable sunbird, males showing an iridescent purple throat patch and maroon wing panel against olive-yellow plumage.
Thrives in gardens, mangroves and coastal scrub as well as forest edge, feeding on nectar from a wide variety of flowering plants and readily visiting flowering hibiscus and heliconia.
