One of the most storied amphibians in Borneo: known only from illustrations based on 1920s specimens until it was rediscovered in 2011 after an 87-year search, becoming a well-publicised example of a 'lost species' found again. Strikingly patterned in mottled purple, orange and green, and unusually for Ansonia toads, more arboreal than its stream- and rock-dwelling relatives.
Found in the upper canopy and understorey of montane forest in the Sarawak highlands rather than beside streams, making it far harder to locate than most Ansonia species. Still known from very few confirmed sightings since its rediscovery.
