The familiar ancestor of most domestic ducks, males with a glossy green head, yellow bill and grey body, females mottled brown with an orange-and-black bill.
A widespread Northern Hemisphere breeder, in Borneo it is an uncommon winter visitor or vagrant, well south of its typical wintering range.
