A neat small starling, males with a chestnut cheek patch and pale grey crown contrasting against glossy dark upperparts.
Passes through Southeast Asia on migration between its Japanese breeding grounds and Indonesian wintering areas, occasionally recorded stopping over in Bornean lowlands.
