A large, dark flying squirrel named after the zoologist Oldfield Thomas, similar in general size and habits to the black flying squirrel, found in tall lowland and hill forest.
Strictly nocturnal, gliding between emergent trees and feeding on leaves and fruit. Detection relies on spotlighting at dusk or on night drives, watching the sky along forest edges.
