A large, dark-coated flying squirrel found in tall lowland and hill forest, similar in size to the red giant flying squirrel but with a blackish-brown rather than reddish coat.
Nocturnal, gliding between emergent trees and feeding on leaves and fruit. Less frequently recorded than the red giant flying squirrel, but follows a similar spotlighting strategy for detection.
