Similar in general appearance to the edible-nest swiftlet, but building a nest incorporating feathers alongside saliva, giving the nest a darker colour and lower commercial value.
Feeds on flying insects in large flocks, roosting communally in caves, and can be difficult to separate from other swiftlets in flight without a close view of the nest.
