A fully aquatic snake with distinctively rough, granular skin (unlike the smooth scales of most snakes), found in estuaries, mangroves and shallow coastal water.
Feeds on fish, hunting underwater and rarely if ever coming onto land voluntarily — it is largely helpless and disoriented if stranded on shore. Non-venomous.
