The largest pitta in the world, with a relatively subdued blue-brown-black colour scheme compared to smaller, more vividly coloured pittas, but an impressive size for the family.
Forages on the forest floor for invertebrates and small vertebrates, extremely shy and considered one of the more difficult pittas to see well anywhere in its range.
